Why Choose Book Buddies?
Across the world, millions of children do not have access to educational resources, including books. Studies have shown how the effects of reading on child development are indispensable. Reading can enhance a child's social and cognitive development, mental health, and well-being. Reading also improves a child's literary skills, expands their vocabulary, increases their concentration, and raises levels of creativity and imagination. Children are found to develop a deeper understanding, empathy, and strong relationships as a result of reading. Many households contain children's books they no longer need anymore. Book Buddies strives to use those books to provide access to reading for children in shelters and hospitals.
ABOUT ME
Ira Mehta is currently a senior at Lake Ridge Academy in North Ridgeville, Ohio. She is actively engaged in her local community helping children through organizations such as ShoeCyclist and Youth Challenge, and she enjoys teaching Indian dance classes to elementary students at her school. She has grown up to love reading. Her favorites as a child were the Magic Tree House, Harry Potter, and the Hunger Games. She hopes to give every child the opportunity to travel around the world, right in their seat.
